A website can be a static site, a CMS, an e-commerce platform, or something written from scratch. Each of those is the right answer sometimes and the wrong one the rest of the time, and getting that choice right is worth more to you than any of the technologies themselves. We have built all four over twenty years, which is what makes the judgment worth something.

We start most projects by asking whether a static site will do, because when it will, it is the cheapest and sturdiest thing we can hand you. We build those with Astro: pure HTML, CSS, and minimal JavaScript, served from a global CDN for a few dollars a month, with very little exposed to attack. When a static site will not do — you need people publishing every day, a real storefront, customers logging in — we say so, and build the thing that fits instead.

That includes WordPress. We have delivered dozens of WordPress sites and it is genuinely the right tool for some projects. When we recommend it, we tell you plainly what it costs to run: updates, ongoing maintenance, and the cleanup if it is ever compromised.

Where we can, we will steer you toward the simpler, lighter option. A static site needs no application server, costs a few dollars a month to host, gives an attacker very little to work with, and leaves a smaller infrastructure footprint than an always-on stack. That is a preference, not a rule — if your situation needs more than that, more is what we will build.
